About this course

Instructor: Lowell Fryman, Practice Principal & Capability Manager

Course Objectives:

  • Originate data strategy, principles and structure
  • Assess scope, controls and change management processes
  • Plan alignment between data governance and business programs

In this course, we begin with step one of the Prescriptive Path, the governance foundation. Establishing the governance foundation supports the long term goals of adaptability, scalability, and helping the organization grow. The objective of the foundation step is to establish the data strategy, guiding principles, organizational structure, roles, responsibilities and basic policies. Developing a communication and education plan, promotion plan, steering committee, working groups, and defining the roadmap helps everyone understand the strategies and intended outcomes of the data governance program.

The second step of the Prescriptive Path is to prioritize the use cases, key performance indicators and metrics applied in the governance iteration implementation. This process establishes the scope of the implementation. Generally, our customers start with a use case that has been identified as high priority. The objective is to gain better alignment between the data governance program and the business programs that have the need, or most urgent need, for governance to ensure that we’re aligned with our business processes. This helps identify the business policies, processes and resources that will be impacted.

Collibra makes it easy for data citizens to find, understand and trust the organizational data they need to make business decisions every day. Unlike traditional data governance solutions, Collibra is a cross-organizational platform that breaks down the traditional data silos, freeing the data so all users have access.
