Domain Types

[bok-callout]Domain & Domain Type

A Domain is a logical grouping of Assets (according to their function, project, or knowledge area). A Domain is owned by exactly one Community and its name is unique within that Community. A Domain is the instance of exactly one domain type.

A Domain Type formally defines which types of Assets can be created in the Domain. In other words it serves as a template. By assigning asset types to a domain type, you can specify which asset types can be created within which domain type.

E.g.,:

  • in a Glossary domain type, you can create Business Term and Acronym asset types
  • a domain named ‘Customer Domain’ groups all assets related to customer relationship management
  • a domain named ‘Enterprise Rules and Policies Domain’ collects all assets of type ‘Policy’ and ‘Rule’ in the organization

The Operating Model provides following Domain Types, to be extended with your own ones if necessary.

The tool functionality on managing Domains is explained in the DGC User Guide in the section on Domains.
